Abstract
There are several conditions that endanger the life of the critically ill obstetric patient, some related to pregnancy itself, others to medical illnesses that are aggravated during pregnancy, and others to complications of existing illnesses that are not related to pregnancy (asthma, trauma, autoimmune diseases, etc.).
The available literature of nutrition in a critical obstetric patient admitted to an intensive care unit is limited. The objective of nutritional therapy under conditions of critical illness is not only to feed the mother but also to provide adequate calories and adequate nutrients for the growing fetus.
