Abstract
Recycling of the slag is a crucial challenge for the steel-producing companies because of a huge amount of the slag produced in the steel companies. This paper investigated an ability of a basic oxygen furnace slag using in desulfurization of hot metal in pre-treatment process, as a solution in recycling of the slag. Iron and the slag were obtained from a steel company. The iron was completely melt in a high frequency induction furnace to get hot metal, then a flux containing the slag and CaO was embedded into the metal. After 10 min of reaction time, the metal and slag samples were taken out for chemical compositions analysis. The results shown that the S content of the metal decreased from 0.054 to 0.027 mass%. The oxidation of Silicon (Si) strongly influenced the desulfurization of the metal; increase in oxidation of Si caused removing of Sulfur (S) content of the metal to decrease significantly.
