Abstract
Modern day leaders can learn lessons of authentic leadership through reviewing the lives of ancient Biblical leaders. Daniel, Joseph, and David were three exemplary leaders in the Old Testament who demonstrated Walumbwa, Avolio, Gardner, Wernsing, and Peterson’s (2008) four components of authentic leadership: self-awareness, relational transparency, balanced processing, and internalized moral perspective. The lives of the three leaders were reviewed through an exegetical analysis. In particular, Daniel excelled at the authentic leadership tenant of internalized moral perspective. Joseph demonstrated wise, balanced processing, and David possessed self-awareness and practiced relational transparency. By applying the lives of these men to lessons of authentic leadership, current leaders can further develop their authentic leadership skills.
