Abstract
This chapter seeks to provide the reader with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities to financing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Distilling the complexity of domestic and international financial systems into simple concepts, the chapter articulates that the opportunities for finance to support climate resilient societies are influenced by global agreements, regulatory frameworks, structure of financial markets, and the behaviors of financial system participants including institutional investors. The chapter considers the development of sustainable finance and the levers that policy makers may use in their own jurisdictions influencing the direction of existing markets and create new markets.
