Abstract

Detonation gun thermal spraying widely is used as erosion, wear and corrosion protective coatings to the various industrial applications. In present study, ASTM SA213 T-22 boiler tube steel sample was coated with Stellite-6 using Detonation Gun (D-Gun) thermal spraying method. Coated and uncoated samples were kept in the super-heater zone of a coal fired boiler at 900 °C up-to 1000 h (Hrs.) for 10 cycles each of 100 h. in boiler followed by 1 h. cooling at ambient temperature. An approach was made to improve the properties of the substrate material to withstand high temperature corrosion and erosion. The thermogravimetric technique was used to establish kinetics of corrosion. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive analysis (SEM/EDAX) and X-Ray Mapping techniques were used to analyze the corrosion products. The results reveal that coating on the boiler steel provided the substrate with necessary protection against erosion -corrosion at high temperature as compared to the uncoated one.
