Russian statistics to 1915 are taken from P.A. Khromov, Economic Development of Russia in the 19th and 20th Centuries, 800–1917 (Moscow, 1950); Spanish statistics to 1940 are taken from the Anuario Financiero Sociedades Anonimos.
The U.K. statistics to 1938 are taken from H. Oliver Horne, A History of Savings Banks (Oxford, 1947). The Greek data for 1902–5 and 1954–55 were supplied by the National Statistical Service of Greece.
