One obligation of a geopark is to promote science to the general public. Action plans are formulated by the geopark authority to help the public learn more about the Earth’s history and the natural environment through various kinds of science popularisation activities. These activities are carried out on a regular basis and target the young people living within or near the geopark, and they focus on the natural environment, local culture and history. They are also aimed at university students and the general public. Activity plans are usually prepared on annual, short-term and long-term (3 years) basis. These plans include the project names, activities, completion times, responsible organisations and members, and the goals and expected results. They are either fully funded and supported by the geopark authority, jointly funded by the relevant organisations or sponsored by private enterprises.
