Acidic Ca2+ storage compartment in trypanosomatids, e.g., Leishmania mexicana, Trypanosoma cruzi, and Apicomplexa ( Toxoplasma gondii ). They are also rich in phosphorous, Ca2+, Mg2+, and Zn2+ and have a number of pumps and exchangers involved in their homeostasis.
