Conjugated polyrotaxanes are supramolecular model materials for studying the photophysics of intermolecular interactions in organic semiconductors and their heterojunctions.

Intermolecular interactions affect the chemical, biological, and physical properties of a huge variety of systems [1] such as protein folding [2], prion formation, and cellular organization [3], as well as the rich photophysics of natural dyes and synthetic organic semiconductors [4, 5]. The underpinning science of such interactions is thus significantly relevant for the development of consumer electronics displays and other optoelectronics applications.
