Alexandr Fyodorovich Alimov (1933– ), founder of the Russian school of functional ecology and president of the Hydrobiological Society, is known for his theoretical and experimental work on the functioning of aquatic ecosystems and development of methods for, and approaches to, preventing an environmental ecological crisis.
