Definition

Sistergroup of sarcopterygians, include all ray-finned fishes, i.e., bichirs (Polypterus) and the reedfish (Calamoichthys), together forming the cladistians, the sturgeons (chondrosteans) the gars (Lepisosteus; ginglymodes) and the bowfin (Amia; halecomorphs), as well as the manifold modern ray-finned fishes, the teleosts.
