Abrosimov Bay – is located in the east of the southern island of Novaya Zemlya in the Kara Sea, Arkhangelsk Oblast. It is quite big, in the west it breaks into the land for 4.5 km. The entry width is 2.7 km. The banks are low, dome shaped, and do not exceed 15–20 m above sea level. In addition to Abrosimov River, two small rivers run into the bay. Three reactors with spent nuclear fuel, 3 reactors without SNF, and reactors of nuclear-powered submarines K-3, K-5, and K-19 were sank at the depth of 12–20 m in 1965–1966. A.B. was discovered and roughly mapped in 1833 by Pyotor K. Pakhtusov, the head of the Novaya Zemlya expedition. The bay was named after Egor I. Abrosimov, Russian captain, astronomer, and researcher of the White and the Baltic seas.
