Abstract
Electrical stimulation of the peripheral and central nervous system is a well-established method for investigating the properties of neurons, such as their connectivity, their post-synaptic actions (whether excitatory, inhibitory, or neuromodulatory) and the conduction velocity of their axon. The efficacy and spread of activation depends on current intensity and axonal diameter. The choice of current polarity and electrode type can affect the distance at which neurons can be activated.
