Keeping wounds in line - a new option for treatment

Abstract

Lining up cells and collagen in an orderly fashion may lead to more effective wound healing. The body’s natural healing process takes care of filling a wound with a mass of tissue, but it is often disorganised with little in the way of structure. Now, methods have been devised which enable researchers to add ‘scaffolding’ to a wound, to aid the body’s tissue reorganisation. In vitro and in vivo studies have given good results, as presented at IBC’s recent Wound Healing conference [ Cardiff, UK; July 1994 ].
