On the stellar progenitors of Type Ia Supernovae

Abstract.

In this paper I will review the physical properties of Type Ia Supernovae and, basing on the observational evidence and on stellar evolution theory, I will derive a possible self-consistent scenario for both the progenitor systems and the explosion mechanism.
