Abstract

A Time Projection Chamber is the primary option for the main tracker of the detector at a future e+e linear collider. The tracking system has to face significantly more complicated event topologies and higher backgrounds compared to previous e+e colliders, which puts stringent requirements on its overall design. The design issues and R&D plans for developing such a high performance TPC are presented. Particular emphasis is put on the R&D for a new type of gas amplification system, based on micro pattern gas detectors.
