Abstract

In this research, seam strengths of deep corrugated steel plates (DCSP) with 400 by 150 mm section (DCSP type II) are evaluated using the numerical simulation approach. To validate the adopted method, the previously reported experimental test results of DCSP with 380 by 140 mm section (DCSP type I) are utilized. Since the differences between the experimental results and the results of the numerical simulation were less than 6%, it is validated that the numerical simulations are performed appropriately for the seam strength evaluation. Using the validated numerical simulation approach, the seam strengths of DCSP type II with various thicknesses are evaluated. For example, when the bolts with 19 or 22 mm diameter are applied to the 7 mm-thickness DCSP type II, the estimate seam strengths of 1698 and 2392 kN/m are acquired respectively. Since the reliable results of the DCSP seam strength by experimental approach is not presented up to now, it is concluded that the estimate seam strengths acquired from the numerical simulation of this research might be used as alternative reference data for the designing of DCSP structures.
