Requirements of regulatory documents on the laying of oil pipelines on permafrost are discussed. Above-ground pipelines on supports, and their underground placement are examined. Grounds for, and sequence of selection of the underground method are proposed. An example of settlement of an underground oil pipeline indicated that displacement of soils on thawing permafrost and unfrozen marshland may be essentially equal during a prolonged period of operation.
