Abstract

This series of articles provides, from an international perspective, an analysis of the future of the automotive industry and aluminum’s role in automobile weight reduction technology. Part I briefly reviews the environmental and social issues surrounding the automobile and describes how these issues are concurrently driving the automotive industry to employ weight-adding technologies and seek opportunities for weight reduction.
