Unusual presentation of carotid body tumour

Abstract

Though a rare entity, ‘Carotid Body Tumor’ presents with fairly constant clinical presentation. A suspecting surgeon with additional help of carotid angiography can now easily pin point the diagnosis and thus avoids intraoperative complications. But occasionally one might encounter a rare presentation and this may lead to ambiguity about the nature of the tumour, and intraoperative complications.

In our experience of nine cases of Carotid Body Tumor we encountered two such cases. This paper deals with them in detail.
