Abstract

Goodlad et al. [1] reported that 95 of 236 cases had inappropriate margin resection, and incomplete resection of the primary tumor was identified in 56 (59%) after re-resection, including 29/55 in the lower extremities, 16/25 in the upper extremities, 7/10 in the trunk and 4/5 in the head and neck, and remnants can be seen with naked eyes in 31 cases. Chardrasekar et al. [2] reported that 2201 cases of STS were admitted from Apr 1982 to Dec 2005, among which, 402 (18%) were unplanned resections, and 363 were studied; 316 underwent re-resection, and 188 (59%) showed residual tumor. The phenomenon of unplanned resection is seen throughout the world [3, 4].
