Iceberg is formed from land-based glaciers by falling off from the land. It is made from freshwater rather than sea water. The ship-iceberg collision is a potential hazard for those ships navigating in ice-covered areas. However, due to the increased technology of detection system on board, the probability of large iceberg colliding with ship might be marginal. Ship-iceberg interactions shall include the global and local effects of both ship and iceberg. Due to the existence of free surface, the complicated ice mechanic properties, this phenomenon is a complicated topic on ocean engineering.
