Abstract
In this chapter we provide an example of an APL article annotated for epistemology and structure. The APL article originated from a Primary Scientific Literature (PSL) article (Bell and Renouf 2004), proposing an explanation for the puzzling distribution of known dwelling sites for ancient maritime people on the island of Newfoundland. The scientists propose that there is a scattered distribution of living sites along the present coast of Newfoundland. They argue that these sites are scattered due to the fact that the coast has fluctuated dramatically over the last several thousand years because the ocean volume has increased and decreased as the island of Newfoundland has risen and fallen into the Earth’s mantle.
