The Arctic Human Development Report, published in 2004, was an assessment of the state of human development in the Arctic.
Description
A major aim of the report was to make a direct contribution toward strengthening the Arctic Council’s (AC) work on sustainable development.
At an early stage the Arctic parliamentarians became involved in the project, and the Standing Committee of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region (SCPAR) assumed a leading role, calling for preparation of an AHDR at conferences in 2001 and 2002. The Arctic Council then approved in Inari in October 2002 the preparation of an AHDR with the goal of developing a “comprehensive knowledge base” for the work of the AC Sustainable Development Program. The report became an Icelandic priority project during the 2002–2004 chairmanship of the Arctic Council.
