The Vascutek Elan stentless porcine prosthesis — The Glasgow experience

Abstract

The ideal aortic valve implant will provide maximum restoration of aortic valve dynamics, a low transvalvular gradient, minimal long-term structural valvular degeneration, a low infection rate and will be relatively easy to implant. Stentless bioprosthetic valves have been shown to provide excellent hemodynamics in comparison to first and second generation stented bioprostheses, with corresponding early greater regression in left ventricular mass [14]. We assessed the medium term outcome of implantation of the Vascutek Elan aortic stentless bioprosthesis (Vascutek, Newmains Avenue, Inchinnan, Renfrewshire PA4 9RR, Scotland, UK) in a single center (Fig. 1).
