Abstract
The breast is one of the most common sites of surgical procedures. About 183 000 new breast carcinomas will have been diagnosed during 1995 in the United States (Wingo et al. 1995). If this number represents 20%–40% of surgical breast biopsies, the total number of surgical procedures approximates 500 000 although the number of surgical procedures for biopsy may diminish with the rise in utilization of percutaneous core and fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) (Liberman et al. 1995; Rubin et al. 1995). It is important for radiologists to recognize postsurgical alterations and be aware that they may overlap with the radiographic features of malignancy.
