Abstract

True malformations as causes of conspicuous external genitals occur less frequently in girls than in boys and often as varieties of normality and acquired pathologies (Table 33.1). The latter are important for differential diagnostic reasons because parents and the involved girl can be reassured and/or adequate treatment be carried out. On the other hand, early recognition of true anomalies is superior to diagnosis at puberty for psychological and therapeutical reasons.
