The purpose of this Chapter is to develop a connection between lower cenral and dimension series of groups, simplicial homotopy theory, and derived functors of non-additive functors in the sense of Dold-Puppe. A basic role in this study is played by two spectral sequences investigated by E. Curtis. Our analysis leads to interesting homotopical applications.

For various notions about simplicial objects and the tools required from simplicial homotopy theory, the reader is referred to the Appendix.
