Zusammenfassung

Die Toxoplasmose ist eine weltweit vorkommende Zoonose. Sie wird durch das Protozoon Toxoplasma gondii, einen intrazellulären Erreger, hervorgerufen. Der Erreger wurde erstmals im Jahr 1908 als Parasit in einem Nagetier, dem Gondi, nachgewiesen und primär der Gattung der Leishmanien zugeordnet. Die erste Beschreibung einer Erkrankung beim Menschen erfolgte 1923 mit dem nachfolgenden Nachweis einer diaplazentaren Übertragung im Jahr 1939. Ende der 1960er Jahre erfolgte die vollständige Aufklärung des Entwicklungszyklus von Toxoplasma gondii.
