Abstract
Persuasion is a fundamental element in changing human behaviors and attitudes. Persuasion strategies are used to change human behavior in different contexts such as healthcare, learning sciences, business marketing, advertising, and brand management. In recent years, the term “persuasion” has been adopted in the information systems domain and has become a popular methodology to explain the changes of human behavior through computing technologies in several different areas including health and safety. With the advances in technology, computing devices such as mobile devices and applications have become significant tools for user persuasion. Further, strategies and theories have been proposed to understand the changing human behavior using persuasive technologies. This chapter provides suggestions and implications for behavior change theories and persuasion strategies in mobile health domain, and it presents how these applications are used to change individuals’ health-related behaviors. A literature survey was conducted to identify applications and the theories employed in mobile health domain. The results of this study provided valuable data for researchers about the implementation of persuasive strategies in the healthcare.
