International Arctic Science Committee (IASC)– a nongovernmental international organization founded in 1990 by representatives of the eight Arctic countries – Denmark, Greenland, Iceland, Canada, Norway, Russia (then USSR), United States, Finland, and Sweden – to collaborate on various aspects of research in the Arctic. Currently, groups from 15 non-Arctic countries are involved in the IASC activities (England, Germany, France, Italy, China, South Korea, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, India, Portugal, Spain, and Japan). They study the Arctic regions and their role in the development of the Earth. Geographically, the areas of interest for IASC are the Arctic Ocean and adjacent parts of land. Research Projects Committee include, among other issues, biodiversity in Arctic ecosystems, arctic hydrology, glaciology and ecology of Arctic sea, routes of transportation, and life of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic (Inuit, Chukchi, Sami, Aleuts, and others)....
