Ice River – a rapid drift of the ice of various forms and age during the storm pressing or surge winds along the coastal obstacles, especially in the narrow zones, straits, at protruding headlands, and islands. I.R. occurs when there is a long and strong surge, creating pressure of ice on the shore. It is formed by the rear of the cyclone passing over the area with sustained and strong westerly and north-westerly winds.
