Harbour Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) – a marine mammal of the family Phocoenidae, the Cetacea order. The size is small (average length is approx. 1.6 m); the females are larger than males; weight is 30–90 kg. H.P. differ from other dolphins by having a low dorsal fin. The color of the back and the sides rangers from almost black to dark gray, the belly is bright. H.P. can be found in the Barents Sea, the White Sea, and less commonly in the Kara Sea, also in the temperate zone of the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. H.P. lives in the coastal zone. It feeds mostly on gregarious fish. Mating and calving occurs in the warm season. Pregnancy lasts up to 10 months. Not more than a few dozens of H.P. are killed by hunters every year.
