Halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus) – the largest fish of Pleuronectidae family. The species is up to 4.7 m in length weighing up to 350 kg; it is usually 150–230 cm long weighing 45–120 kg. H. inhabits the depths of 150–700 m. An active predator. H. engages in feeding and wintering migrations over the distances of up to 1000 km. The puberty occurs at the age of 7–17 years. H. spawns in winter and in spring at the depth of 300 m and temperature of 5–7 °C. The breeding performance is up to 3.5 million of 3–4.3 mm diameter eggs. The life span is up to 30 years.
