GRID-Arendal – an official UNEP channel of information about the northern region. G.A. was established by the Government of Norway in Arendal in 1989. The objective of G.A. is to consolidate research data on the status of northern resources at global, national, and local levels; assist in the implementation of joint agreements; monitor the environment of the northern countries; provide information support to the resource and environment management; and draft reviews and maintain the international reference base on the status of the Arctic environment. G.A. has branches in Ottawa, Canada, and Sydney, Australia.
