Varandey Seaport – situated in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug on the coast of the Barents Sea, in the Varandey Bay. The name was assigned to it by the Government of the Russian Federation on 15 April 2008. In 2010, the port was opened for service and to accept the foreign vessels. The port is mainly used to ship oil from the fields of Varandeyskoye, Toraveyskoye, Toboyskoye, and Myadseyskoye, which are connected to the pipe lines that lay on the coastline. The port was constructed in the place of the settlement Varandey, which was officially closed up in the 1990s, since its territory was to be used for the construction of oil terminals and the seaport. Residents, mainly fishermen and hunters, were resettled to the capital of the region – Naryan-Mar.
