Tsivolka, Avgust Karlovich (1811 (1812)–1839) – an Ensign of NNC and an explorer of Novaya Zemlya. In 1832 T. completed his training at the First Navigation Semi-depot in Kronstadt as conductor of NNC later sailing aboard Knyaz Varshavskiy corvette and Kastor frigate in the Baltic Sea. During 1834–1835 T. was in command of Kazakov karbass participating in P. K. Pakhtusov’s second expedition to Novaya Zemlya and exploring its east coast to the north of Matochkin Shar Strait up to the latitude of 74°30′N. On completion of the expedition and the death of its leader, T. had to complete the final map and report on his own. In 1836 T. surveyed and measured the depths of the Finnish skerries aboard Sneg schooner. T. was promoted to the rank of Ensign of NNC for his performance during the expedition of 1834–1835. In 1837 when in command of Krotovschooner, T. took part in the zoological and botanical expedition to Novaya Zemlya led by K. M. Baer, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. T....
