Skobelitsyn, Pyotr Nikiforovich (1702–?) – 2nd Lieutenant of the Surveyor Service, participant of the Second Kamchatka expedition, and explorer of the Kara Sea and Kuril Islands. In 1715 S. enrolled to study in the Navigation School and was sent to the Naval Academy’s surveyor class in which he graduated from in 1721. During 1724–1734, S., as a surveyor, surveyed hard-to-reach areas of Siberia. During 1734–1737, S., as a 2nd Lieutenant of the Surveyor Service, he participated in the exploration of Ob Bay and the Kara Sea shores between Ob and Yenisei together with D.L. Ovtsyn’s party. In 1741 S. sailed along the Kuril Islands to Japan aboard Sv. Ioann packet boat commanded by M.P. Shpanberg.
