Kolchak Island (from 1939 to 2005 – Rastorguev Island) – is located off the southeastern coast of the Taimyr Peninsula, 9 km from Cape Lopatka, the Kara Sea. It is around 18 km long, has oblong shape, and stretches approximately from the west-northwest to the east-southeast. The coastline perimeter is about 50 km. Two rocky hills are connected an everglade. The island is 100–110 m high. It was discovered and mapped in 1901 by the Russian Academy of Sciences polar expedition of 1900–1903 on the yacht Zarya under the leadership of E.V. Toll and named after the hydrograph of this expedition Lieutenant A.V. Kolchak. In 1939 it was renamed and became the Rastorguev Island (the musher and sailor of the boat Zarya). In 2005 the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation returned island its former name.
