Abstract
In this chapter we will give an introduction to the methods in functional data analysis. We will present the basics from principal component analysis for functional data together with the functional analytic background as well as the data analytic counterpart. As prerequisites we give an introduction to presentation techniques of functional data and some smoothing techniques. A few asymptotic results are presented as well.
