Contemporary Radiation for Spinal Metastasis and Spinal Cord Compression

Central Nervous System Metastases

Abstract

Spine metastases have been treated for palliation of pain with conventional radiotherapy. Recent development of spine radiosurgery, also called stereotactic body radiotherapy, showed improvement of local tumor control at the treated spine level as well as pain control. The accumulated experience opens a paradigm shift of treating spine metastases with or without spinal cord compression for limited spine involvement or in the context of oligometastasis. In this chapter, the new treatment method of spine metastasis and spinal cord compression is discussed.
