Abstract
Transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) is an emerging operation in the United States that has been met with both enthusiasm and skepticism. It has now developed beyond the very beginning phases of innovation and has entered a period in which it is reproducible and thus accessible to many surgeons throughout the world. However, it is still in some ways a developing operation, and as such, great care and responsibility are needed to ensure the operation is propagated safely and studied in a fair and unbiased manner. This chapter deals with expected complications that may arise during TOETVA, which complications should be reported, and finally what should be done with the data as it is reported.
