Fractures of the Elbow

Abstract

Distal humerus fractures in the elderly can be a difficult problem to treat. Due to the baseline osteoporosis, fractures are oftentimes extremely comminuted. Coupled with the complex anatomy of the bone, this makes open reduction and internal fixation extremely challenging and sometimes impossible. Total elbow arthroplasty is another surgical strategy that has good, predictable outcomes in this patient population.
