Abstract
Ever since ESA therapy was introduced, clinical practice guidelines on the management of anemia in patients with CKD have been devised in various parts of the world. Thus, US, European, UK (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence [NICE]), Australian, Canadian, and Japanese anemia guidelines have all been published over the last two decades. The guidelines have discussed most of the issues outlined in this chapter, focusing mainly on ESA and iron management, and there has been an evolution of recommendations over time. Since 2010, the Work Group of the KDIGO Anemia Guideline has reviewed the latest evidence on the management of anemia in CKD patients, and their final report was published in August 2012.
