Abstract
Heart failure is a major public health problem, and, given the data showing a significant increase in the number of heart failure-related hospitalizations, it can be regarded as an emerging epidemic. Heart failure is the most frequent cause of hospitalization in patients aged 65 years and older. It accounts for more than 1 million hospitalizations per year in the United States.1–3
