Abstract
Recently we have studied in Ceratitis capitata and Rhagoletis pomonella adult feeding in nature and fecundity resulting from various natural substrates flies feed upon. We have shown that bird droppings, fruit juices, and insect honeydews, probably enriched by microorganisms, are the main contributors to fly fecundity in nature (although at a lower level of fecundity than a laboratory diet of enzymatic yeast hydrolysate and sucrose).
