Adaptiveness and Ecology of Echolocation in Toothed Whales

  • Chapter
Animal Sonar Systems

Part of the book series: NATO Advanced Study Institutes Series ((ASIAS,volume 28))

Abstract

Of all aquatic animals only odontocete cetaceans are known to have a well developed sonar system. While certain other marine vertebrates will be discussed briefly in the latter part of this review, we are primarily concerned with the toothed whales.
