Abstract

These karyotypes are gifts of Dr. Ulfur Arnason, Lund, Sweden and came from fibrous tissue cultures. Two males and one female were studied with similar findings. They have been published by Arnason, including C-banding. As in other whales, large blocks of heterochromatin are distributed irregularly over the chromosomes with some polymorphism. The X was identified by autoradiography in the female; it comprises 4.7% of the haploid set (A + X). The Y is 1.9%.
