Abstract

Cardiac operations are often not curative. Reoperation is not infrequent in coronary and valvar disease. The mortality of reoperation in most centres is higher than for first operations, particularly for valve re-replacement, and the results are less good, especially after redo coronary artery bypass grafting (Jett et al. 1986; Nakano et al. 1986; Gautam et al. 1986). The indications have to be considered therefore with great care and in as full as possible understanding of the reason for the poor result of the first procedure.
