Abstract

Among the main natural sea-bed resources (oil and gas, metals, coal, calcareous matter, gravel and sand) oil and gas are now of paramount importance to the world economy and the contribution of these offshore sources to total world production will increase. The enormous quantities of certain metals in subsea polymetallic nodules will predictably be exploited in the future.
